What are the losses and characteristics of air compressors
1. What are the losses of air compressors?
The mechanical power output of the air compressor from the rotating shaft is always less than the electrical power absorbed from the power supply, so the air compressor is lossy. Air compressor losses include the following three:

(1) Stator copper loss and iron loss. That is, the power loss of the current in the stator winding resistance and the hysteresis loss and eddy current loss caused by the alternating flux in the stator core.

(2) Rotor copper loss and mechanical loss. That is, the copper loss caused by the current in the rotor winding and the air compressor loss caused by ventilation friction.

(3). Additional loss. The additional loss caused by the current induced in the cage rotor by the higher harmonics of the stator flux. The state stipulates that the additional loss is 5% of the input power.

2. What are the characteristics of deep groove air compressor?
The stator of the deep groove air compressor is the same as that of the ordinary cage air compressor. The rotor is also a squirrel cage type, but the groove placed on the rotor core is deep, showing a deep and narrow shape, and the general groove depth is 10 to 12 times the width of the groove.

When the air compressor is starting, due to the skin effect of the squirrel cage conductor, the starting current is concentrated in the upper part, which is equivalent to the cross-sectional area of the cage strip is smaller, that is, the effective resistance is increased, and as a result, the starting current of the stator winding is reduced.

The increase of the resistance of the rotor cage also improves the power factor of the air compressor, and because of the increase of the power factor, the starting torque of the air compressor also increases, improving the starting performance.

When the air compressor is in normal operation, because the frequency of the rotor current is very low, the skin effect of the deep groove type Figure 8-6 almost no longer exists, and the rotor current is evenly distributed in the section diagram of the entire cage conductor section of the air compressor, the resistance of the rotor winding is automatically reduced, so it can still ensure good working performance.

Therefore, the deep groove air compressor has better starting characteristics than the ordinary cage air compressor. However, compared with the double squirrel cage air compressor, the power factor and overload capacity are poor.
